The first Ghost in the Shell TV opening was an awkward attempt to move the protagonist into the 3D-generated world. Thankfully, the second opening used hand-drawn animation in one of the most memorable montages in anime history.
Sure, the police chief doesn’t really do too much in this animation. However, this opening was memorable for many other reasons. It finally brought her entire team together in a cool group photo lineup. Parts of the slick montage also squeeze in shots of her robotic team of hackers, as well as some scenes of heavy duty tank violence. All this excellent animation combines perfectly with an multi-lingual vocalist for a truly unique cyberpunk experience, all in only one-and-a-half minutes.
